First Phase of Studies – Pre-clinical Studies

The pre-clinical phase of studies spans four semesters of study and ends with the First National Medical Licence Examination ("1. Ärztliche Prüfung").
In addition to this, you must complete a first-aid training course either before commencing your study of Medicine or during tuition-free periods in the pre-clinical phase of study. You must also complete a period of practical training in nursing care which must comprise a total of 90 calendar days.

• First-aid course
• Period of practical training in nursing care
• 1st semester of study
• 2nd semester of study
• 3rd semester of study
• 4th semester of study
• Elective course
• First National Medical Licence Examination ("1. Ärztliche Prüfung")

In the pre-clinical phase of studies, the elective course comprises a minimum of 20 tuition periods and can be taken during the 2nd to 4th semester of study. This course can either be freely selected from the list of pre-clinical courses offered by the Faculty of Medicine which are not part of the compulsory curricular university courses, or from the overall list of courses offered by the University of Tübingen.
