Scientific Symposium of the National Center for Pleura and Peritoneum (NCPP)
We are delighted to invite you to the scientific symposium of the National Center for Pleura and Peritoneum (NCPP) on November 6, 2021 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the large lecture hall of the Medical Clinic / Medizinische Klinik, Klinikum Berg.
Peritoneal metastasis (PM) is perceived a lethal disease with a toll of 1.000.000 lives yearly worldwide. PM is challenging to image, so that diagnosis is usually late. Surgery can cure a small subset of patients with limited PM. Systemic therapies have undoubtedly improved PM patients' outcomes, but reports of long-term survival are rare. Individualized therapy of PM remains a dream. The aim of the NCPP at the NCT South-West Germany is to change this.
NCPP, a collaborative network of 11 clinical departments and theoretical institute in Tübingen and at Robert-Bosch in Stuttgart, was founded in 2018 to offer research-driven patient care in PM. NCPP is a high-volume center for PM. During the last four years, NCPP members performed over 400 gynecological cytoreductions for ovarian cancer, 200 surgeries and HIPEC for gastrointestinal cancer, and 360 Pressurized IntraPeritoneal Aerosol Chemotherapy (PIPAC) in the palliative setting. NCPP has been conducting active translational and clinical research, with 31 peer-reviewed publications since 2018. Several NCPP scientists are investigators in the iFIT excellence cluster. NCPP has submitted thirteen grant applications. NCPP laboratories have been upgraded with a scanning electron microscope. NCPP scientists supervised twelve doctoral students in medicine, two bachelor students in medical engineering, and one M.D., Ph.D. student. NCPP has launched the International Society for the Study of Pleura and Peritoneum (www.isspp.org) with headquarters in Tübingen, and the peer-reviewed journal "Pleura and Peritoneum".
We now proposed our students to present their research work to NCPP, iFIT, and Faculty of Medicine members. The scientific program/agenda is attached. Prof. Olivier Glehen from Lyon, our guest star, will present his research vision in peritoneal diseases.
Please join us to enjoy stimulating presentations, support NCPP's next-generation scientists, and pave the way for NCPP's future ! Participation is free. Please also note that the 2G rule applies to the symposium. The number of participants is limited to 45. A short registration email to symposium@ncpp.de is required until Nov 1st.
