iFIT Lunch & Learn Session with Jun. Prof. Dr. Matthias Gehringer
“Harnessing the Power of Covalency for Protein Kinase Inhibition"

On behalf of the iFIT spokespersons Lars Zender, Hans-Georg Rammensee and Bernd Pichler, it is our pleasure to inform you about and invite you to the next iFIT Lunch & Learn Session 2023 that will take place
on Wednesday, November 15th at 12:00 pm s.t. (CET) at Big Lecture Hall in the Crona Clinic (Crona Kliniken, Hoppe-Seyler-Straße 3, 72076 Tübingen
Our guest speaker and iFIT member, Jun. Prof. Dr. Matthias Gehringer (Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University Hospital Tübingen) will give a talk on
“Harnessing the Power of Covalency for Protein Kinase Inhibition”.
„Protein kinases are now among the major drug targets for cancer therapy and over 70 small molecule inhibitors have entered the market since the groundbreaking approval of imatinib (Gleevec) in 2001. Covalent inhibitors, which have gained traction in recent years, have proven to be highly valuable for targeting protein kinases due to their superior potency, selectivity, and prolonged duration of action. Of the >500 human protein kinases, however, only a small fraction has been covalently addressed so far. In this Lunch & Learn Session, I will highlight general properties, design principles, and available “warhead” chemistries for targeted covalent inhibitors. I will present our recent efforts towards covalent protein kinase inhibitors targeting cysteine residues in different regions of the ATP binding pocket including the so-called "hinge region" and the solvent-exposed front region. Moreover, I will showcase how canonical and non-canonical warhead chemistry can be harnessed to generate highly efficient and selective covalent inhibitors for cancer-relevant protein kinases."
As a special feature of this program, the iFIT will sponsor free lunch packages! (First come, first serve)
All members of the University Hospital and University of Tübingen are invited to participate!
We look forward to this Lunch & Learn session and to see you there!
