WCPH 2026 Cape Town

From September 6 to 9, 2026, the Department of Population-Based Medicine at the University of Tübingen was represented at the 18th World Congress on Public Health (WCPH) in Cape Town. The international congress brought together more than 2000 public health experts from over 100 countries.

With its own booth, the PBM Tübingen team presented the existing Population-Based Medicine degree program as well as the new Population Health and Policy degree program, which is scheduled to begin in October 2027. The new program, in particular, generated a great deal of interest among international conference participants and led to numerous discussions with prospective students and colleagues from around the world. Representing the department at the event were Dr. Amy McInerney, Dr. Mahdieh Shojaa, Sonja Grund, and the department head, Prof. Dr. Norbert Schmitz.

Under the theme “Health Without Borders: Equity, Inclusion, and Sustainability,” the WCPH provided an important platform for international exchange on current public health challenges. For the PBM team, participation was a valuable opportunity to raise the international profile of its degree programs, establish new contacts, and further expand its network in the field of public health.
