Johannes Schwenck appointed to W2 professorship!

Great news for Johannes Schwenck and our cluster! He has been appointed as W2 Professor for Translational Immunoimaging at the Medical Faculty of the University of Tübingen.

Johannes Schwenck (born 1986) studied human medicine at the University of Tübingen and completed his doctorate in 2015. He also earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Experimental Medicine from the University of Tübingen in 2021. From 2013 to 2020 he worked as an assistant physician in the Department of Nuclear Medicine and Clinical Molecular Imaging at the University Hospital of Tübingen, then as a senior physician until 2021. This was followed by a stay abroad at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research as a Research Fellow in the Immunometabolism and Cancer Immunology Laboratory at the University of Lausanne, before returning to the University Hospital of Tübingen in August 2023 as a senior physician in the Department of Nuclear Medicine and Clinical Molecular Imaging. He is also an associate investigator in our iFIT Cluster of Excellence and a scientist in the Werner Siemens Imaging Center.

Johannes' research focuses on the development of preclinical and clinical imaging methods for characterizing immunological processes and PET diagnostics with the aim of developing innovative molecular imaging strategies to guide cancer immunotherapies. His current research projects include research into the carcinogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma, the in vivo characterization of tumors such as prostate cancer and secondary and tertiary lymphatic organs using immunotherapy. Due to his clinical and scientific achievements, he has been honored with several awards, including the Alavi–Mandell Award of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, USA (2020) and the Young Talent Award of the German Society for Nuclear Medicine (2019).

We wish you all the best in your new position as a professor!
