With Love and Care on the Journey into Life

Ward 54 / Neo 2 specializes in the intensive care monitoring of premature infants and newborns who require respiratory support, such as CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure). Another key focus is the care of children with complex facial malformations, such as cleft lip and palate or Robin sequence. In the Neonatal Ward 58 / Neo 1, children are admitted for monitoring to rule out conditions or to manage existing conditions (such as hypothermia, hypoglycemia, or hyperbilirubinemia). For families of premature infants, we offer so-called family rooms shortly before discharge. In these rooms, parents are allowed to stay with their child for a few nights and care for their children independently. During this time, parents can always turn to the Neo 1 nursing staff if they have questions or need support.

5 Questions for ...

1. Why did you decide to pursue continuing education to become a clinical instructor?

In 2014, I decided to pursue a degree in nursing education, and after completing my bachelor’s degree, I was asked if I would like to become a clinical instructor in the neonatal unit. I had other plans at the time. However, I’m happy with my decision.

2. How long have you been working on the ward, and how long have you been a clinical instructor?

I've been at Neo 2 since October 2011—hard to believe—but working with my younger colleagues makes me feel like I'm in my mid-20s. I took on the role of PA in 2018.

3. As a PA, what do you enjoy most about working with trainees?

Many trainees bring enthusiasm and a “breath of fresh air” to the ward. The best part is watching the trainees grow and knowing that you’ve played a part in that. Plus, the interaction among them—you can learn a thing or two from the younger ones, too.

4. What can you look forward to when you work with us?

Well-planned and structured training days and excellent exam preparation. Fun at work and an awesome team!

5. How would you describe our team in three bullet points?

Humorous, a big eater, and wholeheartedly dedicated to caregiving

Nelli (Clinical Instructor)
1. How long have you been working on the Neo 2?

I've been part of the team since 2018 and started right after I finished my apprenticeship.

2. Why did you choose this field of study?

I've always enjoyed working with the youngest patients the most. Plus, it's a perfect fit for my calm and patient nature.

3. How would you describe our team in three bullet points?

A team with heart: one for all and all for the little ones; humor is part of the routine; they drink more coffee than water

4. What do you enjoy most about a shift?

When it's time to cuddle; bringing a little joy to parents with crafts or photos; ordering food; eye care

5. Why would you choose our ward again?

The best part of this job is supporting and encouraging parents and seeing together the progress their little fighters are making. But of course, being there for them during tough times is just as much a part of it. I feel very at home in my team, and as a result, I’ve not only found great coworkers but also wonderful friends :)
