Bioimaging
The Bioimaging module provides students with the theoretical and methodological background of modern imaging techniques used in biomedical research and clinical diagnostics. As the course builds on biological and medical principles, participants are expected to have a basic background in biomedicine, biology, or related life sciences.
Throughout the module, students gain an in-depth understanding of advanced imaging technologies, including MRI, PET/MRI, PET/CT, and optical imaging, as well as specialized techniques such as functional MRI (fMRI), hyperpolarized MRI, MR angiography, and integrated PET/MR imaging. Additional topics include image reconstruction and correction, radiochemistry, tracer development, and pharmacological modelling.
Students also acquire knowledge of the use and application of radioactive tracers and the fundamental principles of radiation protection. Practical components are conducted in part using small animal models, providing insight into the design and implementation of imaging experiments in neurological, oncological, immunological, and metabolic research.
In addition, students become familiar with commonly used software tools for the analysis of clinical and preclinical imaging data.
