Biomedicine/Molecular Medicine Courses for Erasmus Students

Erasmus Students can choose from a variety of courses in English Language that are opened for Incoming Students. Please find the List of the Courses here.

  • Please be aware, to follow the classes your English Language Skills should be at least the B2 or C1 level.
  • Choosing the Courses please take a special attention to the course prerequisites, if any, the course level and the examination form. Undergraduate exchange students are eligible to take the degree courses as soon as the prerequisites are fulfilled.
  • If enrolled as an Erasmus Student at the Faculty of Medicine, unfortunately, it is not possible to sign in the courses offered by the other Faculties of the University of Tübingen.
  • You may also take advantage from the language courses offered by the Language Center of the University of Tübingen and by the Transdisciplinary Course Program 

You are welcome to include these courses into your Learning Agreement, but please be aware that the registration for this course is your responsibility

Research Lab Rotations/ Master Thesis/Bachelor Thesis for Erasmus Students

The Faculty of Medicine is an excellent place for research. You could do a lab rotation, Master or Bachelor Thesis. Here is what you must take into consideration:

  • Only Students from the Partner-Universities of the Faculty of Medicine or from the CIVIS-Partner Universities are eligible to do a Lab Rotation/Bachelor Thesis/Master Thesis
  • Your Lab Rotation should be at least three months long
  • Starting dates of the Lab Rotation/ Bachelor Thesis/Master Thesis should be in April or in October.
  • Students for the Lab Rotation/ Bachelor Thesis/Master Thesis should be officially nominated by the Partner University. After the official nomination the students are encouraged to contact the lab of their interest and to secure a Lab Rotation/ Bachelor Thesis/Master Thesis placement
  • Each Lab Application should be accompanied by the filled and signed “Application to the Lab Rotations for Erasmus Students”. This Information will help to find a suitable project for the student and to find out in what areas student may need additional instructions.
  • The Learning Agreement will be signed as soon as the Lab Placement is confirmed by the Lab.

Important information for your stay

Summer semester runs from 1 April to 30 September every year. Winter semester runs from 1 October to 31 March of the following year. The Lecture Periods are much shorter than the Semester Period and may vary according to national holidays. Please find the dates here

The Examination Period takes additional two to three weeks after the end of the Lecture Period. So please plan your stay in Tübingen accordingly. 

Please be aware that finding an apartment or room in Tübingen can take some time. So, start your search early. The Student Union can offer rooms to students who have also submitted a housing application. These rooms will be rented according to the Semester Dates. Please be sure to consider this if you are planning to come a bit earlier or to stay a bit longer. By acceding the number of housing applications Erasmus Students coming for studies will be prioritized over the Erasmus Students coming for a Lab rotation.

Please be sure to arrive to Tübingen at least one week before the start of the Lectures.  

The Arrival guide of the University of Tübingen will help you on your first days. 

After your arrival and before the start of the lectures personal counselling appointment should be arranged. During this appointment you will sign a commitment to data protection and confidentiality, be able to get a consultation on your study plan and to ask all the questions concerning your studies in Tübingen.

We kindly ask you to schedule an appointment beforehand and to bring the following with you:

  •  Original Certificate of the Measles Vaccination
  • Enrollment Certificate of the University of Tübingen (you can find this in the ALMA portal)

You will be registered for all the examinations of the Medical Faculty listed in your Learning Agreement. The examination period takes additional two to three weeks after the end of the lecture Period. So please plan your stay in Tübingen accordingly. The exact examination dates will be announced in the Middle of Semester.

You could print your Transcript of Records per one mouse click in ALMA (Examination Registration System) as soon as all the examinations have been graded. The Transcript of Records does not require any additional stamps or signatures.

No matter if you are taking courses or doing research, in order to start at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tübingen, you will have to prove your immunity against measles (two vaccinations or proof of immunity via antibodies in the blood – see attached form „Certification of the Measles Immunity Status according to §20 (8-14) German Infection Protection Act (Infektionsschutzgesetz - IfSG)”). 

For this purpose, use the enclosed form, which must be signed by a doctor and uploaded into Mobility Online during the application process. Please make sure to bring the Original Certificate with you to Tübingen. Without proof of immunization against measles, your study at the Faculty of Medicine is unfortunately not possible.

There are two types of courses offered to international students.


Lectures: attendance is not mandatory and not controlled. If you do not take the Examination or fail to pass it, you will not obtain the ECTS. 

Seminar: attendance is mandatory and is controlled. Normally there is no examination at the End. The grading takes place according to your commitment during the seminar like participation in the discussion or doing a presentation. You are required to be present at least 80% of the course. The reason for your absence is insignificant.
