Key to My Research Podcast with Prof. Walz & Prof. Tabatabai

When it comes to excellent research, the University of Tübingen plays a leading role in Germany and the world. This is proven not least by its status as a University of Excellence with 3 Clusters of Excellence! In the future funding period, there could even be up to 9 Clusters of Excellence from Tübingen! The university has launched the podcast "Key to My Research" to portray the diverse and first-class research landscape. In nine exciting episodes, listeners are introduced to a wide variety of research topics. All the better that two scientists from our Cluster are part of the podcast!

Juliane Walz's episode is about vaccination and cancer. Some cells of the immune system recognize whether a cell is infected or degenerated by protein fragments, so-called peptides, which diseased cells present on their surface. HLA molecules serve as the "presentation plate". Peptide-based immunotherapy is a new and promising approach in which tumor-specific peptides are used to activate the T cells as highly effective defense cells of the immune system.
