The organization of nursing care at Tübingen University Hospital

Nursing Directorate

Nursing Director Klaus Tischler and his deputy bear overall responsibility for the nursing division. They represent the interests of nursing care within and outside the hospital. The Director of Nursing is a member of the hospital's Board of Management appointed by the Supervisory Board and has direct influence on the nursing structural and care processes at the hospital. The focus here is on the further development and assurance of nursing quality.

The nursing service managers are part of the nursing directorate. They are responsible for the nursing and functional services in the respective subareas of the clinics. One of their main tasks is the selection of personnel as well as the assessment, development and retention of employees. In addition, the nursing service managers are responsible for detailed personnel planning and management in the clinics.

Staff Unit KV4 Nursing Organization

The KV4 Nursing Organization staff unit is located on the hospital's Executive Board under the Director of Nursing. The staff unit advises, supports, manages and implements central board projects.

Three focus areas:

  • Communication and personnel service nursing
  • Quality development and nursing consulting
  • Organizational development and management

Central service areas of nursing

  • Flexible outage management ("Springerpool" nursing)
  • Patient and comfort service
  • International health care professions
  • Practice guidance at the hospital
  • Nursing consultations and nursing advisory services
  • Social counseling and nursing transition
  • Central bed and patient management (ZBPM)
  • Central office for hazard reports

Our main care and functional areas

For everyone, an operation represents an intervention associated with fear. In this special situation, the employees assist those affected with a high level of professional competence and empathy. The following professional groups, among others, work closely together in the surgical area:

  • Operating room management and coordination (controls the provision of necessary resources)
  • Nursing staff (with and without specialized training), anesthesia assistants (ATA), operating room assistants (OTA), medical assistants (MFA)
  • Trainees in health care professions, nursing assistants and voluntary services (FSJ, BFD)

A birth is a special situation for the woman giving birth and her family. Midwives support this process with their high level of expertise, together with the physicians of the obstetrics and pediatrics departments. Working in the delivery room:

  • Midwives with and without academic degrees
  • Students of midwifery/nursing school and students of midwifery studies
  • Medical assistants (outpatient clinic for pregnant women)

An intensive care unit is a place where patients receive intensive treatment, care and monitoring. More staff and more protective technology are available for this purpose than is possible in other areas of the hospital. Working in the intensive care units are:

  • Nurses with advanced intensive care training.
  • senior physicians, assistant physicians and specialists who belong to the department of anesthesiology and intensive care medicine
  • specialized therapists, colleagues from the field of logistics and hospital chaplains

The Central Emergency Department (CED), which is staffed around the clock, is a point of contact for medical emergencies. After a comprehensive initial assessment, treatment and, if necessary, onward transfer to the hospital takes place depending on the urgency.

Comprehensive diagnostics, therapy and follow-up care are offered in the specialized university outpatient clinics. In some cases, inpatients are also followed up after complex inpatient therapies. The emergency rooms and university outpatient clinics are staffed by specialists:

  • Nurses with and without specialized training in emergency care or anesthesia.
  • Employees as emergency and rescue paramedics
  • Medical assistants (mainly in the outpatient departments)
