Cleaning up around campus: our laboratory joined the World Cleanup Day

As part of the UNO World Cleanup Day, colleagues from the University Hospital were invited to help remove waste from the streets and green spaces around the campus. Some members of our laboratory were happy to take part and contribute to this community effort. Equipped with gloves, litter pickers and plenty of motivation, we focused on a street section between two bus stops. Although the area seemed relatively clean at first glance, it quickly became clear how much waste was hidden along the roadside, in bushes and between the pavement and surrounding vegetation.

After just two hours of collecting, we had filled more than ten large waste bags. Particularly striking was the number of discarded cigarette butts, which we collected in several bottles. Our experience showed that even a relatively small area can contain a surprising amount of litter.

We are grateful to everyone who participated and helped make our surroundings a little cleaner. It was a great opportunity to contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable campus and city, and to spend some time working together outside the laboratory!
