Else Kröner-Fresenius Foundation Publication Award 2026 for Katrin Böttcher

PD Dr. Dr. Katrin Böttcher, Clinician Scientist and research group leader at the Department of Internal Medicine I and the M3 Research Center, has been awarded the 2026 Publication Award of the Else Kröner-Fresenius Foundation.

The award recognizes her work on the immunometabolic regulation of MAIT cells in metabolic liver disease and liver cancer. The study demonstrates that altered lipid environments in the liver can drive metabolic dysfunction and impair the anti-tumour function of MAIT cells. At the same time, it identifies potential strategies to therapeutically preserve MAIT cell function.
