Josef Leibold receives research grant from German Cancer Aid!
🎉Congratulations to Josef Leibold for receiving a Research Grant from the German Cancer Aid / Deutsche Krebshilfe! With the title "Investigation of immune surveillance and escape mechanisms in gastric cancer for an improvement of CAR-T-cell based therapeutic approaches" Josef and his team want to better understand the interaction of tumor and immune cells in gastric cancer in order to improve CAR T cell therapy.
🔬 Their approach is to start with the genetics of the tumor cell and to investigate the resulting interaction of the tumor cells with the immune cells. Based on these findings, the CAR T cells are then genetically modified in order to tailor them ideally to the tumor cells.
🏆 If the outcome of the project is positive, it would lead to new treatment options for patients with gastric cancer. The grant has a term of 3 years and is endowed with 427,000€
