Martin Müller Receives Best Paper of the Season Award

Our colleague, Martin Müller from Professor Daniel Sauter’s group has been awarded the Best Paper of the Season Award by the Young Society of Virology, Germany (jGfV).

The award recognizes his paperORF3c is expressed in SARS-CoV-2-infected cells and inhibits innate sensing by targeting MAVS” in the scientific journal EMBO Reports. Here, Martin characterized the elusive ORF3c protein of SARS-CoV-2 and related coronaviruses. Its sequence is hiding within another gene, highlighting the complexity of this viruses genome. He was the first to detect this protein in virus-infected cells and showed that it suppresses immune activation by inhibiting the induction of the signaling molecule IFN-beta.

The jGfV selects three publications every four months to encourage and support young scientists on their academic journey. We congratulate our colleague on this achievement!
