PD Dr. Dr. Katrin Böttcher receives the AIO Science Award 2025

At this year’s AIO Autumn Congress, PD Dr. Dr. Katrin Böttcher, Department of Internal Medicine I & M3 Research Center, was honoured with the AIO Science Award in the preclinical category for her study published in the Journal of Hepatology, entitled “Polyunsaturated fatty acid-induced metabolic exhaustion and ferroptosis impair the anti-tumour function of MAIT cells in MASLD.” The AIO Science Award is conferred for innovative research addressing the pathogenesis, diagnostic and prognostic factors, as well as therapy of solid tumours.
The jury recognised Dr. Böttcher’s study as being of high scientific relevance and as pioneering for future research into immune regulation and tumour immunology in hepatobiliary cancers. The work was commended as an exemplary piece of outstanding preclinical research with clear translational significance.
