A Visit from the Far East

Scientific knowledge can only be gained in an open, free and international discourse. For this, personal exchange across academic disciplines, nations and cultures is necessary.
That is why we were all the more pleased to welcome more than 30 Chinese doctoral students who visited Germany and our Cluster of Excellence as part of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - German Research Foundation supported Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings. We offered the students a look behind the scenes of excellent cancer research made in Tübingen. They spent two days and visited various research institutions within the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen before heading to Lindau.

Since their foundation in 1951, the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings have developed into a unique international scientific forum. The annual meetings offer the opportunity for exchange between different generations, cultures and disciplines. Each year, about 30-40 Nobel Laureates gather in Lindau to meet the next generation of leading scientists: 600 students, PhD students and post-docs from all over the world. The meetings focus alternately on physiology and medicine, on physics, and on chemistry – the three natural science Nobel Prize disciplines. This year the meeting is focussing on physiology and medicine.
