International Women and Girls Day in Science

🥳 Today we are celebrating United Nations International Day of Women & Girls in Science! This year marks the tenth anniversary and there is still a lot to do!
🤔 One big issue is the so-called "leaky pipeline" which describes the proportional decrease of women in science with each career level. ♀️
In Germany (2021), 53% of all college graduates were female. 📉 This number fell to 33.9% when it came to habilitation and dropped to 27.2% regarding the percentage of 👩🏫 female professorships at German Universities.
🚧 Although numbers have increased in comparision to 2011, there are far from balanced. There are still a lot of structural obstacles to overcome. 📣 But raising awareness and trying to create a more balanced environment are crucial. That's why we asked 👩🔬 Annika Nelde, Anna Junker, Sylwia A. Stefańczyk & Judith Feucht what advice they would give to their former self which is about to decide to pursue a career in science.
👨🔬 👩🔬 At iFIT we work hard on gender equality at all career levels. But there is still a lot of work ahead of us.
