German centres of health research in Tübingen

In its new Health Research Framework Programme, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research plans to establish six German Health Research Centres to combat common diseases such as diabetes, dementia, cardiovascular diseases and cancer. Each of these centres will consist of several partner locations in order to network specific expertise and combine basic research as well as clinical and translational research for the benefit of patients. The Medical Faculty of the Eberhard Karls University and the University Hospital in Tübingen are partners in four of the German Centres of Health Research. Two, the German Centre for Neurodegenerative Diseases and the German Centre for Diabetes Research, were established in 2009. The German Centre for Infection Research and the German Consortium for Translational Cancer Research followed in 2011.
