Who we are
Who we are
The core consortium conducting CAIDERA is composed of the University of Tübingen, the Centre de Recherches Médicale de Lambaréné (CERMEL) and the Pasteur Institute/Institut Pasteur International Network. We propose to structure, conduct and deliver together, a tailored multi-format training and research programme on emerging and re-emerging viral, bacterial and parasitic infectious diseases, centred on the one health concept and with the aim to foster research capacity and collaboration in the predominantly francophone Central African region.

Recherches Médicales de Lambaréné (CERMEL) et du Reseau International de l'Institut Pasteur. Nous proposons de structurer, de conduire et de délivrer ensemble un programme de formation et de recherche multi-forme sur les maladies infectieuses virales, bactériennes et parasitaires émergentes et ré-émergentes, centré sur le concept d'une seule santé et dans le but d'encourager le development de la capacité de la recherche et de la collaboration dans la région d'Afrique centrale, essentiellement francophone.

Objectives
Our objectives
Specifically, we aim to consolidate our existing internationally recognised strengths in infectious disease research and regional networking and to amplify their impact by establishing a unique in the region, internationally competitive infectious disease M.Sc. programme tailored to the specific capacity building needs of Central African countries. This will be complemented by an interdisciplinary sandwich Ph.D. programme addressing socio- economic, social science, antimicrobial resistance and one health research questions and two massive open online courses (MOOCs) on emerging and re-emerging viral diseases and pandemic preparedness to reach up to 1,000 health care trainees and health care professionals in Central African countries.
Nos objectifs
Plus précisément, nous souhaitons consolider nos forces existantes, reconnues au niveau international, en matière de recherche sur les maladies infectieuses et de mise en réseau régionale, et amplifier leur impact en créant un programme de Master en maladies infectieuses unique dans la région, compétitif au niveau international et adapté aux besoins spécifiques de renforcement des capacités des pays d'Afrique centrale. Ce programme sera complété par un programme interdisciplinaire de doctorat en alternance portant sur des questions de recherche socio-économiques, de sciences sociales, de résistance antimicrobienne et de santé publique, ainsi que par des cours massifs ouverts en ligne (MOOC) sur les maladies virales émergentes et réémergentes et sur la préparation aux pandémies, afin de toucher jusqu'à 1 000 stagiaires et professionnels de la santé dans les pays d'Afrique centrale.

Expert Seminar in Emerging Viral Diseases
This seminar will bring together experts from across Central Africa to discuss this crucial topic of emerging viruses and come up with a proposal on a common project that can be carried out collaboratively.
The event took place from December 13-15 in Lambaréné.

CAIDERA Research Conference and pre-conference workshop, October 02 to 03
CAIDERA is organizing a 2-day research conference in Centre de Recherches Medicales de Lambaréné (CERMEL) Gabon on 02 - 03 of October. The conference will bring together young researchers from the Central African Sub-region to share their work and network. This conference will be preceded by a 2-day pre-conference workshop on antibiotic resistance and stewardship.

Workshop Antimicrobial Resistance and Stewardship
The workshop is designed to provide scientists with a thorough comprehension of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) within the realms of One Health research.
It took place from December 11-12 in Lambaréné.

Master of Science in Infection Biology and Control
CAIDERA in collaboration with the University of Tübingen and the Centre de Recherches Medicales de Lambaréné (CERMEL) Gabon, will be launching in October a new Master's programme in Infection Biology and Control. This Master's programme is based at the Medical Faculty of the University of Tübingen and the study location is entirely CERMEL Gabon. A cohort of 20 students will be retained for the programme every 2 years. This will ensure proper follow-up of each student and small group work for the different module.
The programme is open to non-EU citizens only and the study language is English.
Application deadline is 31 May 2023. Requirements for admission to the programme are:
At least a Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or related field
A B2 level English certificate and an A2 level French certificate
