Sustainability in Nursing
Environmental changes and health are closely interconnected. Therefore, climate and environmental health debates must also take place within the education and training of healthcare professionals. As nurses are the largest professional group in healthcare, they play a crucial role in addressing climate change, preserving environmental health, and promoting sustainability.
The scope of requirements for nursing professionals is impacted both by direct consequences of climate change (e.g., hospitals and healthcare facilities must reduce harmful emissions) as well as indirect consequences from societal impacts of climate change.
As a result, we have committed ourselves to the Nursing School Commitment initiative by Health Care Without Harm (HCWH), which aims to promote and integrate sustainability and climate change-related content into the education of our nursing students.
