Christoph-Dornier-Center of Clinical Psychology at the University of Tübingen Medical Faculty
In March 2001, a new institute of the Christoph Dornier Foundation was opened under the direction of Prof. Niels Birbaumer. The aim of this institute is to advance research in behavioral neurobiology and behavioral medicine. The results of the research should be directly translated into treatments. The emphasis in Tübingen is on the treatment of chronic pain and intractable epilepsy, using a combination of biofeedback training and behavioral therapy. Even though a positive effect of biofeedback has been proven in many controlled studies, the method is still far from being accepted in everyday clincal practise. The outpatient department in Tübingen intends to enable access to this treatment to a wider population of patients.
