Internet related disorder: Strengthen parents! ISES!

If a family member's use of the Internet becomes a problem, the parents and relatives are also the ones who suffer. Attempts to change things unintentionally result in conflicts that affect relationships. The affected person is often not reasonable, refuses offers of help and withdraws more and more into the virtual world. To help parents in this situation, the research project " Internet-related disorders: Strengthening Parents (ISES!)" was brought into being.

The project started in June 2020 and will end in March 2022. The project is funded by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration of Baden-Württemberg within the initiative "Health Location Baden-Württemberg".

The ISES project consists of three subprojects:

Demand survey

A large-scale survey will first be conducted to determine the needs of parents and their exposure to the current situation.

Parent group training

The already developed parent group training will be tested for its effectiveness in a randomized controlled trial.

Online training

The parent group training is to be transferred to an online-based version in order to reach structurally weak regions and to offer parents a contact point who shy away from contact with personal counselling.

Study management

ISES is a cooperative project between the Department of Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy in Childhood and Adolescence and the Section of Addiction Medicine and Addiction Research of the General Psychiatry Department at the University Hospital of Tübingen. A further cooperation partner is the Heidelberg University of Education.
