Implementation of an interprofessional training program
on integrative medicine and care in oncology
Complementary and integrative medicine and care is widespread in the population. Depending on the tumor entity, 40-80% of all tumor patients wish to receive complementary medical treatment (1,2). This demand is offset by a considerable lack of evidence-based, interprofessional training and further education in complementary medicine procedures for healthcare professionals (3).
As part of the Innofond-funded CCC-Integrativ project (10/2019-03/2023) at the four university locations of Tübingen, Heidelberg, Freiburg and Ulm, medical and nursing consultants took part in a specially developed, evidence-based and quality-assured training program to provide interprofessional advice to oncology patients on complementary and integrative procedures.
Aims of the project
The aim of the externally funded project is to adapt, structure and further develop the CCC integrative training concept into a continuing education offer for interprofessional advice on complementary measures for patients with tumor diseases. The offer is coordinated by a cross-institutional and interprofessional project team from the Department of Nursing Science and the Institute of General Medicine and Interprofessional Care (IAIV).
