Station 12

Ward 12 is a general psychiatric, protective ward with 16 regular beds. Women and men from the age of 18 are treated. Patients come to the ward as part of the regular care provided by the district with a doctor's referral or directly via one of our outpatient clinics. Patients from the open wards of the hospital can also be admitted at short notice for crisis intervention.

Mainly patients with the following acute psychiatric illnesses are treated:

  • Psychoses
  • depressions
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Personality disorders
  • Addictive disorders

We also admit patients in crisis situations and/or with suicidal intentions.

In the case of patients who are a danger to themselves or others, treatment is provided on ward 12 in accordance with the PsychKHG BW or the Care Act according to the German Civil Code (BGB). A detailed diagnostic clarification of the existing psychiatric disorder is carried out, if necessary in close cooperation with the other departments of the University Hospital.

Information for relatives

frontend.sr-only_#{element.contextual_1.children.icon}: The sudden onset of psychiatric symptoms often leaves relatives with questions and fears. Our nursing and medical staff are happy to provide information and advice. In individual discussions with patients and relatives, we try to answer questions and provide information about the underlying disorder.

Psychotherapeutic treatment

The protective framework with its daily structuring guidelines provides patients with orientation and security. In the acute phase of a psychiatric illness, medical diagnosis, drug therapy and intensive psychiatric care are the focus of treatment in the first few days. In the further course, therapeutic individual and group discussions take place with doctors, psychotherapists and the nursing team.

Contact with our hospital chaplaincy is possible at any time from the ward.

Learn more

The hospital's social counselling service supports patients in all questions of livelihood, insurance and pension problems, as well as in attempts at work and rehabilitation measures. The social counselling service is available for many questions concerning further treatment by social services or care institutions.

  • Cooking or baking together
  • Walks
  • Climbing
  • Riding therapy
  • Mediation of work attempts

Further treatment

Depending on the illness, many patients are transferred to one of the open wards of the hospital or to our day clinic or to a rehabilitation facility for further treatment after the acute symptoms have subsided.

On discharge home, outpatient support services or psychosocial services can be arranged.
