Ward-equivalent gerontological psychiatric treatment (Geronto-StäB)

The inpatient equivalent gerontopsychiatric treatment offers 5-6 places for the treatment of seriously ill elderly patients in the home environment. There must be an indication or referral for full inpatient treatment in psychiatry from the family doctor or specialist.

This new form of treatment offers more opportunities to identify existing home resources and to involve relatives or carers at home or in the home. In addition, treatment is made possible for patients for whom a change of environment could lead to a deterioration in brain function or who previously refused full inpatient treatment or shortened it against medical advice.
