Prof. Dr. med. Christoph Stein-Thoeringer receives ERC Consolidator Grant 2023

Congratulations to Prof. Dr.med. Christoph Stein-Thoeringer for being awarded a prestigious ERC Consolidator Grant 2023.

The grants are part of EU’s Horizon Europe program and are awarded by the European Research Council (ERC) to scientists who conduct excellent and innovative research across scientific disciplines, supporting them to excel and expand cutting-edge science with 2 Mio. EUR over 5 years.

Prof. Stein-Thoeringer received the grant for his project titled “Leveraging the impact of gut microbes to advance the efficacy of CAR-T cell immunotherapy”, in which he will study microbe-to-host signaling mechanisms in T cell-based cancer immunotherapies in the next years. This research combining preclinical models and human studies will provide the rationale for novel microbiome-based interventions in cancer immunotherapies ranging from nutrition, or phages to individual microbial ecologies.

Christoph Stein-Thoeringer is leader of the research group “Translational Microbiome Sciences” at The M3 Research Center of the University Clinic Tübingen.
