Electroencephalography (EEG)

EEG is an important neurophysiological instrument for psychiatric diagnostics and is further used to monitor the treatment process of specific medicamentous therapies. We routinely perform EEG measurements with all stationary patients during initial examinations and during treatment on indication in our clinical EEG laboratory with two deduction sites.

Electroconvulsion Therapy (ECT)

ECT is a scientifically established procedure and the best possible treatment for certain psychiatric disorders with good treatment outcome in relation to low risk. In this clinic, ECT is primarily used to treat patients with therapy-resistent severe depression and catatonia. Indication and treatment are applied in consideration of guidelines and internal procedural requirements.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)

Noninvasive and controlled measurements and modulations of focal cerebral activity are provided by TMS. Thus this method is an important research instrument of biological psychiatry and further offers new options to treat diverse psychiatric and neurologic disorders. Concurrently, its application to improve the therapy of depression, of symptoms of schizophrenia, and of chronic tinnitus is subject to controlled clinical trials.

Deep brain stimulation

Colloquialy known as "brain pulse generator", deep brain stimulation is a new, effective and compliant therapy option for motoric disease that are otherwise only unsufficiently treatable. Due to an implanted stimulator are electric pulses continuously submitted to certain brain regions. This kind of stimulation modulates cerebral activity proven to be responsible for symptoms of the disease.

Throughout the past years, deep prain stimulation was also successfully applied in the treatment of psychiatric disorders. This method is adopted in cooperation with the Neurosurgical and Neurological University Clinicum in clinical studies of the 'Tübingen BrainStimNet'. Furthermore, the Clinic of Psychiatry and Psychotherapie is involved in the treatment of all patients with deep brain stimulation due to 'Tübingen BrainStimNet'.
