Department of Medical Biometry

Our interdisciplinary team (mathematicians, statisticians, biologists, social scientists and physicians) supports members of the faculty of the University of Tübingen/Medical School in the planning and evaluation of scientific experiments and studies. We are located at Westbahnhofstrasse 55

The Department of Medical Biometry develops new methods for the planning and analysis of clinical and experimental studies. The research contents follow the concrete needs of our medical partners.

For data management, we have at our disposal the validated study database "koordobas" which we developed ourselves. In the near future there will be a reorientation.

A further main focal point of research in our department is the employment of mathematical models and simulations which depict the spreading and combatting of infectious diseases. This is unique in Germany.

Further research projects examine the provision of health care for the general population under everyday conditions (health care research).

Within the reorientation of the department a new focus on genetic epidemiology/analysis of high dimensional data will be established in cooperation with other departments of the Medical School and the Department Natural Sciences.

We instruct students of human-medicine in epidemiology, molecular medicine, medical biometry and information processing. We also instruct biochemistry students in statistics.

Furthermore we offer computer courses for all members of the faculty of the University of Tübingen/Medical School and on demand workshops on statistics for research teams.
