- To provide start-up funding (fortüne and Applied Clinical Research, AKF) for innovative projects with high prospects of success in procuring third-party funds from external sources
- To offer support and training to students involved in scientific projects (Graduate Programme, Promotionskolleg)

According to their category, each application is evaluated by faculty experts or by external reviewers and then presented to the Extended Research Commission (Erweiterte Forschungskommission) for final consideration.

Applications to the fortüne and AKF programmes may be submitted at any time but please allow three months for processing.
The Graduate Programme "Molecular Medicine" for the year 2010 is full. There will be an announcement for application for the year 2011 in SS 2010.
