Dr. Suchira Gallage receives a Max-Eder Fellowship
Dr. Suchira Gallage has been awarded the competitive Max-Eder Junior Research Group position by Deutsche Krebshilfe (German Cancer Aid) to advance research on lifestyle interventions in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and liver cancer.
MASLD, including metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), has now become the most prevalent chronic liver disease worldwide, yet effective pharmacological therapies remain limited. To address this urgent medical need, Dr. Suchira Gallage’s research group will focus on lifestyle interventions such as intermittent fasting and exercise to combat disease progression. Additionally, the team aims to develop novel therapeutic mimetics that can replicate the beneficial effects of fasting and exercise using pharmacological approaches, overcoming challenges related to patient compliance.
This prestigious funding will enable Dr. Suchira Gallage and their team, based at M3 Research Center at the University of Tübingen, to pioneer innovative strategies that bridge metabolic health and cancer prevention.
