Prof. Dr. Dr. Nürnberg receives DFG funding for Research Training Group

The group is one of 13 new Research Training Groups that will be funded for a period of five years.

The Research Training Group "Non-Canonical G Protein-Dependent Signaling Pathways: Mechanisms, Functions, Consequences" focuses on signaling pathways that regulate numerous biological processes in the body and are significant for widespread diseases such as diabetes mellitus, cancer and stroke, but also for rarer diseases. The identification of non-canonical G protein-regulated signaling pathways has significantly expanded the spectrum of G protein-dependent signaling, opening new avenues for the development of promising pharmacological therapeutic approaches. The goal of the Research Training Group is to fill the gaps in our understanding of selected non-canonical signaling pathways in order to develop new promising therapeutic strategies.

The Research Training Group is designed as a cross-sectional research network that strengthens all foci within the Faculty of Medicine. The focus of the Research Training Group is on the promotion of young scientists. Therefore, a coordinated research, training and supervision concept has been developed, which is specifically tailored to the different requirements and needs of the natural science and medical doctoral students. The declared aim is to combine internationally competitive research with a targeted program in order to lead young scientists to successful independence.
