The evaluation is based on specialist articles published between 2014 and 2023 provided that at least one author was working at an institution in a German-speaking country during this period.

The citation and publication figures come from the renowned Web of Science database from Clarivate Analytics (formerly Thomson Reuters). Only original works in specialist journals were taken into account, not reviews, meeting abstracts, or similar formats.

The cut-off date for the evaluation was May 23, 2025.
The evaluation primarily included works in specialist journals of cell biology – or publications by researchers working at an institute in this field.
