The project "Using EEG/MEG based brain-computer interface technology combined with neurostimulation in neurorehabilitation and mental augmention" is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) within the framework of the international NIH-DFG Research Career Transition Awards Program In this project.

We are investigating if individuals with chronic paralysis, due to stroke, are able to learn through BCI training to control their own brain activity in specific areas. In a second step, we will investigate if this training leads to an improvement in the patient's mobility. Additionally we will test if noninvasive electric brain stimulation facilitates the success of BCI training for patients.

Dr. S. Soekadar and Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. N. Birbaumer, members of this research team, were honoured by the BCI Award 2012 for work resulting from this project.
