iFIT Distinguished Lecture Series with Dr. Luigi Nezi
Gut microbiota dynamic during anti-PD-1 therapy reveals stable microbial features of tumor response

On behalf of the iFIT spokespersons Lars Zender, Juliane Walz and Bernd Pichler, it is our pleasure to inform you about and invite you to the next episode of our iFIT Distinguished Lecture Series 2025 that will take place
on Monday, September 29th at 12:00 pm (CEST)
at Big Lecture Hall 210 in the CRONA Clinics.
Our guest speaker, Dr. Luigi Nezi (Istituto Europeo di Oncologia [IEO]- IRCCS, Italy) will give a talk on
“Gut microbiota dynamic during anti-PD-1 therapy reveals stable microbial features of tumor response”.
The advent of immune checkpoint inhibition (ICI) therapy markedly improved the outcome for melanoma. However, responses remain heterogeneous, with about half of the patients being refractory or relapsing. Here, we follow the gut microbiota of melanoma patients over the course of anti-PD1 therapy, to delineate gut changes related to host response and identify gut and host factors involved. At the functional level, our data underpin a key role for specific bacterial metabolic activities and structural components in driving a productive immune response, demonstrating pre-existing reactivity against specific bacteria-derived tumor-mimicking antigens in complete responders, both in periphery and at tumor level. During the talk, we will discuss future implications and novel perspective studies.
As a special feature of this program, iFIT will sponsor free lunch packages! (First come, first serve)
All members of the University Hospital and University of Tübingen are invited to participate!
We look forward to this Dinstguished Lecture and to see you there!
