Vascular Medicine and Diabetes
The primary research objective of the groups working in the Institute for Diabetes Research and Metabolic Diseases is the personalized prediction of diabetes risk and diabetes prevention as well as personalized therapy. Here special focus is placed on gene-environment interaction.
This study is being carried out at 7 centers across Germany under the auspices of the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD). It investigates the extent to which adjustments of lifestyle (balanced diet, more exercise) can lower the risk of later development of type 2 diabetes. Study coordinator is the Paul Langerhans Institute of the University of Tübingen.

In collaboration with the University of Dundee (United Kingdom), the field of vascular medicine continues to participate in the International Graduate Program 1302 "The P13 Kinase Pathway in Tumour Growth and Diabetes".
The Faculty of Medicine Tübingen and the University Hospital Tübingen have joined forces with institutes of the University of Hohenheim to create the transregional Center for Nutritional medicine (ZEM). The goal of the center is to carry out basic research and clinical trials in the area of nutrition medicine and to optimize patient care with respect to nutrition medicine.
