I am a Full University Professor (W3) of Computational Psychiatry at the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the University of Tübingen. In addition, I serve as an Honorary Professor at the Max Planck UCL Centre for Computational Psychiatry and Ageing Research at University College London, and as Head of Computational Psychiatry at Limbic Ltd in London. My research focuses on understanding the cognitive and neural processes that give rise to mental illnesses, and how these mechanisms change as mental health problems emerge and relate to brain and cognitive development. Using methods from cognitive neuroscience and computational modelling, my lab investigates neurocognitive mechanisms underlying psychiatric disorders, with a particular focus on conditions such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). A central goal of my work is to translate mechanistic insights into improved treatments. My lab studies how established and novel interventions—such as cognitive behavioral therapy with exposure and response prevention —affect brain and cognitive processes, with the aim of understanding variability in treatment response, predicting individual outcomes, and guiding the development of more targeted and effective therapeutic interventions. The research conducted spans several key areas, including the study of cognition, neuroimaging, computational modelling of behavior, and clinical studies. Through this interdisciplinary approach, I contribute to advancing a mechanistic understanding of mental health and improving strategies for diagnosis and treatment.
