Myocardial Inflammation and Cardiomyopathy

(AG Dr. med. David Heinzmann)

Our Research

Our lab is committed to identifying mechanisms of myocardial and vascular inflammation centering on leukocyte recruitment and platelet activation. We are interested in understanding immune response to myocardial damage including ischemic and non-ischemic cardiomyopathy, tachycardiomyopathy, and vascular thrombo-inflammation.

Basic research:

  • Role of Cyclophilins in cardiovascular diseases
  • Myocardial and vascular inflammation
  • Platelets and platelet-monocyte interaction
  • Regulation of Matrix-Metalloproteinases

Clinical research:

  • Association of inflammation and arrhythmias
  • Novel drug targets for inflammatory cardiomyopathy

The Team:

  • Saskia von Ungern-Sternberg, PhD - Postdoctoral fellow
  • Klaudia Posavec - Technician
  • Carole Malek - Technician
  • Jann Arden - MD student
  • Jakob Lieb - MD student
  • Manuel Sigle - MD student
