Data Scientist / Data Analyst / Bioinformatician (f/m/d)
Translational Microbiome Sciences
Tasks
- This project employs a multi-omics approach, integrating microbiome data, metabolomics, immune phenotypes and clinical records to uncover the relationships between microbes and their host in the context of cancer or cancer therapies
- The research will be conducted at the state-of-the-art M3 Institute at the University of Tübingen
Your profile
- A Master’s or Ph.D. in Biostatistics, Data Science, Machine Learning, Bioinformatics or Mathematics
- Experience with compositional microbiome data, including whole-genome and 16S rRNA sequencing analysis, and RNA seq data analysis
- Proficiency in exploratory data analysis (EDA) and a solid understanding of machine learning algorithms
- Expertise in multiple programming languages, such as Python and R, with experience working in Linux-based environments and HPCs
- Familiarity with explainable AI tools (e.g., LIME or SHAP) for interpreting machine learning models
- Experience with multi-omics data integration
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a proven track record of effective collaboration within interdisciplinary teams
- Proficiency in English or German (written and communication)
Starting date: as soon as possible

PhD student (f/m/d) focus biology, immunology or metabolism
Immune signatures of chronic inflammatory human diseases driving cancer
Tasks:
- The applicant will focus on Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease: From understanding the pathomechanisms to translation into tailored therapeutic concepts
- Molecular, spatial, and cellular mechanisms of metabolic reprogramming through necroinflammation in MASH
Profil:
- Excellent recent university degree: MSc / MRes (also candidates about to obtain such a degree are welcome to apply) or equivalent
- Focus on cell biology, immunology and metabolism is an advantage
- Strong motivation and high interest to join and work closely with other team members
- Excellent communication skills in English
- Interest and creativity to shape your own thesis project
- Energy and power to follow your scientific interest in the frame of chronic inflammation and cancer
Studentische / Wissenschaftliche Hilfskraft (w/m/d)
Aufgaben:
- Betreuung und Pflege der Website des Zentrums in Abstimmung mit der Institutsleitung
- Planung und Umsetzung von Aktualisierungen und Projekten
- Aufbereitung von Inhalten in Abstimmung mit der Institutsleitung und Akteuren, Koordination der technischen Umsetzung mit den zuständigen Abteilungen
- Allgemeine Organisationsaufgaben sowie Mithilfe bei Routinearbeiten im Sekretariat und bei Veranstaltungen
Profil:
- Eigeninitiative und selbstständige, strukturierter Arbeitsweise
- Interesse an Öffentlichkeitsarbeit und wissenschaftlicher Kommunikation
- Gute Ausdrucksfähigkeit in Wort und Schrift
- Teamfähigkeit
- Fit im Umgang mit Office-Anwendungen (MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
