Paediatric Surgery

Newborns and congenital malformations

The surgical treatment of congenital disorders is based on modern treatment principals providing adequate quality of life for the most common pathological conditions with good functional results. Several disorders are treated by minimal invasive surgery (tracheo-esophageal fistula, diaphragmatic hernia, and lung malformations).

Paediatric urology

The Department of Paediatric Surgery represents a centre for congenital urologic malformations (e.g. bladder exstrophy, vesicoureteral reflux, ureteral stenosis). The institution is one of the leading national centres for minimally invasive paediatric urology.

Tumour surgery

For the surgical treatment of paediatric tumours, our department is a registered reference center for hepatic and renal tumours as well as for soft tissue sarcoma within the German Society for Paediatric Haematology and Oncology (GPOH) and the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP).

The treatment of severely injured children is one of the main responsibilities of paediatric surgery and paediatrics. Cranial, cerebral and spinal injuries are treated in a multidisciplinary approach.
